About 4 years ago, while I was still very active playing sotball and horseback riding, I was constantly complaining about how much pain I was in and how tired I was all the time no matter how much sleep I got. I went to doctor after doctor, got X-rays and MRI's, and went to physical therapy on and off for about 2 1/2 years, but nothing was helping and no one could figure out why. I was constantly being told that it was all in my head and that there's nothing wrong with me, so I finally convinced myself that it was probably just that I was over working myself so I just kept pushing through the pain in everything that I did. When my final softball season came to an end, in May 2012, and a little less than a year later I was still in so much pain all the time we decided it was time to investigate further. After more X-Rays, more MRI's, more doctors and more physical therapy, nothing was showing up and I still had no answers. Then came the bloodwork, which eliminated all other possibilities. (Lupus, Lyme's disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, etc.) In August of 2014, yet another new doctor finally diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia. I have been on medication since then and I feel a huge difference in the way I have been feeling. Don't get me wrong, I still have some really bad days but it's much easier going through my everyday routines and I'm more able to do things that I want to do in much less pain than I would have been in 8 months ago. I have a very supportive family, an incredible boyfriend, and some truly amazing friends behind me in my battle with Fibromyalgia that I am beyond thankful for. Not all illnesses are visible, and I think it's about time we bring more attention and more awareness to those illnesses. Please help my team in any way you can, even the smallest donation would mean the world to me! Thank you so much to everyone who donates and/or walks with me on May 9, 2015!
The Caterpillar Walk program is a fundraising campaign designed to raise awareness and support for Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain. 100% of proceeds raised will support education, advocacy and research efforts.
One of the greatest challenges of this syndrome is the lack of awareness and visibilty, as a result the National Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain association has launched this year's theme: Your Voice Matters, YOU make Fibromyalgia Visible. Your participation in this walk will help us make Fibromyalgia visible.
While many walks have taken place across the country to support our work, this is the 1st annual walk in NYC. Our goal is to help bring the Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain community together.
The NYC Caterpillar Walk will take place on Saturday May 9th.
