BENEFITING: CHILDRENS MERCY HOSPITAL
EVENT DATE: Sep 30, 2012
For a long time, I was upset at the world, but recently I came to my senses and snapped out of it. Now, I have a new love of life and a message to share with all...stop waiting!
For me, 2012 began on a self inflicted rocky road. I found myself with a passenger mentality in my own life; always making excuses for my inactions and explaining away why great things happened for others. I let my self perceived sense of failure eat away at my spirit. I continually beat myself up and I became defeated.
I am not sure if it was a conversation I had with an old friend, or if it was seeing another friend's passion finally pay off, or if all of the advice and wisdom my wife has given me finally sunk in, but one day in March I woke up and said "enough!"
I realized that I have been dealt a pretty good hand and that if I wanted life to change then I needed to stop waiting for it to change. Consciously, I decided to stop living the life that I thought everyone else wanted for me and to start living the life that I want and deserve.
In a few short months, I have changed careers, become more present at home, and reconnected with my creative side.
Now, I am embarking on a new challenge and doing it for another passion of mine, giving back.
On September 30, 2012, I will be racing in the Stonebridge Ranch Triathlon in McKinney, Texas. I have always wanted to participate in a triathlon, but in the past, I made excuses about not have enough time, or my knee problems, or not having a bike. Today, no more excuses. I am checking this off my proverbial "bucket list."
This effort will be for the benefit of Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Children's Mercy is an incredible facility focused on pediatric and adolescent health care. My family has utilized Children's Mercy in one form or another from urgent care stitches in the chin to a cast removal to breathing treatments for pneumonia. Fortunately, these have been somewhat minor.
Unfortunately, many families that I know are faced with serious pediatric health obstacles. Many have utilized the facilities, services and doctors at Children's Mercy, while others around the country seek help at other hospitals and clinics. If possible, I would raise money for each and every one. However, with the research and care that this donation provides, it is my sincere hope that this money will extend beyond the walls of Children's Mercy Hospital.
Thank you for support, donations and encouragement! I am excited and nervous but know with this carrot of raising money for such a wonderful cause, anything is possible.
