Brian Critz's Fundraiser:

Support me & Marriage Equality

On November 4th, I’m running my first marathon through the five boroughs of New York City. And I’m asking your help of a small donation for a good cause to make it all worth it!

My last training run lasted nearly five hours so I’ve had lots of time to think – and I was thinking that this whole marathon thing is a bit self-indulgent unless I put all the time and miles to good use. So, I’d like to ask you to support a great cause by pledging for every mile to support marriage equality. Join me, Mayor Bloomberg, Dick Cheney, President Obama, Clint Eastwood, Lady Gaga, and a majority of all Americans who believe that same sex couples should have the same access to equal marriage as everyone else.

Why pick this cause? Why this, when I’m straight, married, and it doesn’t affect me? It's because I think marriage is great and I’d like more people to have a chance to do it. Because same sex couples should be able to marry when they’re in love, just like straight folks. Because our country is a better place when we treat people fairly. And because, although much progress has been made in the last 10 years, there is still tremendous work to do when same sex couples are only allowed to get married in 5 states today – in fact, there are election day ballot measures in 3 states this year.

Laura and I are getting it started with a donation of $4/mile for $104.80. Whether you want to match us, or go for a buck a mile at $26.20, or $2/mile at $52.40, or anything at all you can afford, it will be money well spent! The funds will go to the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, a charity run by the HRC, a mainstream organization that has been leading the charge for LGBT civil rights since 1980.

This is a secure site that the NYC Marathon endorses for cause-related running. Donate what you can, and then watch the results on November 4th to make sure I run all 26.2!

Thanks so much,
Brian & my lovely wife Laura
