THE STORY:

Dear friends and family, As some of you may possibly know, my Spring Break was spent down in Dallas working with refugees through a non-profit called For The Nations Refugee Outreach. I am an elementary education major, so having a week full of teaching refugee students English & playing games for hours on end with them made it the perfect week. Spring Break was so impactful in my life, I decided I wanted to try to work with FTNRO this summer, and I was fortunate enough to get a job as an intern! To help give you an idea of the non-profit I will be working with: FTNRO works with refugees in the Dallas area from war-torn countries in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. For the Nations’ mission is to serve the refugee population holistically. Not only do they provide for the immediate needs, but they also reach out & offer help to refugees in ways such as providing English classes, citizenship classes, kids’ camps, and other needs they may have as they begin to assimilate into their lives in America. FTNRO is dedicated not only to providing for the physical needs of the refugees, but also to their spiritual needs as well, by weaving the gospel message into all its programs. Refugees are often looked at negatively or ignored altogether, so having this chance to reach out to them for a summer is an awesome opportunity to help show them the love God truly has for ALL of us. This summer, FTNRO will be directly impacting the lives of refugees by ministering to school-aged children. Every day we will be teaching kids English, math, swimming, and other valuable skills, along with sharing them the Gospel. A part of this summer that I am most excited about is the ability that I will have to help out in a class to teach English to recently arrived refugees. Without any understanding of English, it will be nearly impossible for the refugee students to be successful in the US school system. There is a huge need for this type of ministry in the US, but this is especially true in Texas, where the most refugees are welcomed yearly by any state. There are two ways to get involved if you wish to support me and FTNRO this summer: 1: Prayer. Please pray that God would continue the work He has started in Dallas with the refugee population and that the hearts of the peoples would be molded and receptive to the Holy Spirit. Pray for the focus & faithfulness of our team as we do our best to show God’s love to the refugees. 2: Financial Support. Because For the Nations is a non-profit organization, all the funds for this missions internship will need to be raised. My goal is to raise $2700 for help with housing, travel, and living expenses. Donations of any amount, whether it be $1 or $100, would be greatly appreciated! I would be honored to have your support this summer! All gifts would be tax deductible and greatly appreciated. If you choose to give and wish for your donation to be tax deductible, you can make checks out to For the Nations with “Brian Allender” in the memo line. Checks may be mailed to PO Box 850064 Richardson, TX 75085. Please contact me if you have any questions about this process! Whether you are able to support me or not, please feel free to contact me at any point if you wish to hear how my summer is going by phone (319-464-7307) or by email (ballen@iastate.edu). Any support, whether that be by praying or by giving financial support, truly means a lot. I am incredibly excited to see what this summer has in store for me. This is exactly how I want to spend my last summer before graduation. Thank you for your prayers and support! Brian
