EVENT DATE: Mar 11, 2012
Two years after a devastating earthquake that left more than 250,000 dead and made many more homeless, Haiti is still struggling to rebuild. Over 600,000 people are still living in displacement camps and recent cholera outbreaks have only added to their suffering. Children have been tremendously affected and impacted by this ongoing tragedy, as many of them have lost at least one parent, if not both, and are without a family. As we know, assistance and help can mean many different things to many different people. While a number of rescue organizations are working to cover basic human physical needs, there is also recognition that emotional and spiritual needs are unmet. I am working with a group called YogaKids, which has dispatched yoga instructors to Haiti to work with school aged children specifically through the teaching of yoga concepts, which offers them the chance to move and stretch their bodies, stimulate their artistic and spatial skills through art projects and connect them with their peers in a safe and supportive environment. YogaKids, through the Bridge of Diamonds Foundation - a non-profit organization, is raising money to assist with the ongoing relief efforts and help Haiti, full of rich culture and hard working people, slowly heal and rebuild and one day, become a thriving country. Please support me as I embark upon this journey to teach yoga to the children of Haiti in March. Your tax-deductible contributions will not only support my work in Haiti but also the rebuilding efforts funded through the Bridges of Diamonds Foundation. Thank you!
