BENEFITING: Brigham and Women's Hospital
ORGANIZER: Brigham and Women's Hospital
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
My sister Hannah and I will be running the 2015 Boston Marathon in April. We are both running in support of the Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Fund, which helps finance trauma treatment and limb reconstruction.
This fund is very close to both of our hearts, as Gillian – who received life-threatening injuries as a result of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings – is a close family friend. When we heard the news that day, we both feared the worst, and for a time it did seem that Gillian would lose one or both of her legs.
Through the amazing efforts of trauma doctors and nurses at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), Gillian and 38 other individuals were treated and saved. Gillian received multiple skin grafts and was able to keep both of her legs. Through physical therapy and the support of her friends and family, she is getting stronger every day.
People need trauma care when something unexpected and sudden happens – a car accident, a shooting, or a random act of violence. As a result, trauma care hasn’t had strong financial support. The funds Hannah and I raise will go directly to this effort, and help others like Gillian regain their strength, mobility, and spirit in order to step strong once again.
My goal is to raise $7,500 for the fund, and I would appreciate any amount to help me reach that goal.
Thank you so much for your support. Together, we will continue to change lives for those with traumatic, athletic, or disease-related limb injuries.

A proud partner with the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.), Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) is excited to present two exceptional Boston Marathon teams this year: our core BWH Marathon Team, which supports life-giving breakthroughs across all disciplines and disease areas at the hospital; and the Stepping Strong Marathon Team, initiated by a Boston Marathon bombing survivor, which fuels innovative research and clinical programs in trauma healing and limb reconstruction at BWH. Since 1998, our BWH Marathon Team has raised more than $6.6 million to support world-class patient-centered care, groundbreaking research, community programs, and education for the next generation of healthcare leaders. Thank you for supporting this transformational work.
