BENEFITING: Brigham and Women's Hospital
ORGANIZER: Brigham and Women's Hospital
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
My fundraiser for Brigham & Women’s comes to a close on Monday, June 1st, so this will be my last call to please support this amazing hospital. Not only did my family experience first hand their fantastic care when my wife had innovative, and very successful, surgeries there as part of her cancer treatment, but they also delivered and cared for our friends’ son who amazingly was born at 26 weeks gestation, and has now grown into a fantastic, completely healthy and active 11-year old.
Brigham & Women’s has been a world leader in innovative healthcare for over a century now. They have gone from being the first hospital to perform a kidney transplant back in 1954 to being a world leader in full facial transplants, performing the nations first facial transplant back 2011, and since going on to perform several others. They played a vital role in the aftermath of the marathon bombings two years ago. In the eight years prior to the bombings, Brigham & Women’s conducted 78 emergency drills, making them amply prepared when their 55-bed emergency department with 66 patients suddenly needed to receive 19 bombing victims within 30 minutes.
Being on the front lines of healthcare means that their practices are eventually adopted by other hospitals and doctors around the world, benefitting everyone, not just those who happen to be at the hospital. Your donation will help Brigham & Women’s continue to change the future of medicine. Straight from their website: “Our mission is built on the promise to care and the drive to cure, the humanity to heal and the tenacity to never give up. Because life is at stake.”
