BENEFITING: Brigham and Women's Hospital
ORGANIZER: Brigham and Women's Hospital
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
Dear Family & Friends,
I am honored and humbled to be running on behalf of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the 2015 Boston Marathon. As many of you know, healthcare runs in my family DNA - my father a Doctor and Chief Medical Officer, my mother a former Nurse and Healthcare Educator, my older sister, an aspiring Nurse Practitioner, not to mention my other cousins who are NP's, Nurse Anesthetists, and also an Occupational Therapist. Although, I have strayed away from the family norm and pursued a career in the hospitality industry, I am eager to support our family values and help contribute to the medical field; specifically, to a cause that effects one of my siblings.
On April 20, 2015, I will be running for my sister, Emily, and any other individual who battles with diabetes. Emily, 28 years old, was diagnosed with diabetes at just 17 months old. My parents did an exceptional job ensuring Emily lead the most “normal” life possible. Honestly, aside from the fact that Emily was given 3 extra cookies before she went to bed, I did not realize she lived with an incurable disease. I truly did not understand the complications and effects this disease can have on a person's life.
Three years ago, Emily was found in a diabetic coma after experiencing a very low blood sugar. My life was flipped upside down. We almost lost her to this horrific disease. She spent the subsequent year in extensive cognitive therapy to regain her memory.
I will run 26.2 miles to help find a cure for diabetes. Please consider helping me in this journey and my efforts to support Brigham and Women's "Life Giving Breakthroughs". I am hopeful one day, there will be a cure. Any donation, big or small, is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your support and generosity.

One hospital, two extraordinary marathon teams. This year, Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) is excited to assemble two outstanding Boston Marathon teams: the Life.Giving.Breakthroughs. Marathon Team, dedicated to raising funds across all disciplines and disease areas at BWH, and the Stepping Strong Marathon Team, initiated by a Boston Marathon bombing survivor and dedicated to fueling innovative research and clinical programs to advance trauma healing. A proud partner with the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.), our two teams are united in a powerful mission: to transform the future of medicine for patients and families here in Boston and around the world. Since 1998, BWH has raised more than $6.6 million through its marathon program, and in less than a year, the Stepping Strong Fund has raised more than $3.6 million. Make a difference in the lives of patients and families for generations to come by supporting the Life.Giving.Breakthroughs and Stepping Strong teams.
