BENEFITING: Brigham and Women's Hospital
ORGANIZER: Brigham and Women's Hospital
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
I have not been a runner for very long, but I have always run for a purpose. This year I am running the Boston Marathon as a member of the Brigham and Women's Team to raise awareness for Alzheimer's Disease. Alzheimer’s is a unique disease in that it doesn’t just affect one person it affects the entire family, and over the last 7 years, it has had a significant impact on my family.
To say that finding a cure for Alzheimer’s is important to me is an understatement. By joining Brigham and Women’s Marathon team, I hope not only raise awareness for all of the medical breakthroughs that BWH is working on, cancer, cardiovascular, diabetes, etc., but I would also bring more attention to the Center for Alzheimer Research and Treatment which is currently trying to improve early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease as well as assessing promising new treatments for AD.
On April 20th, I will run 26.2 miles for life saving medical breakthroughs. I will run for the people who have Alzheimer's. I will run for the families affected by Alzheimer's, and I will dedicate my run to my grandmother Doris McInerney who passed away in May of 2014.
