BENEFITING: Brigham and Women's Hospital
ORGANIZER: Brigham and Women's Hospital
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
Runner's high... It's the best feeling... And it's an even better feeling when you're getting it for a good cause! Nothing beats that endorphin release when you're reaching the finish line and achieving a personal goal. The Boston Marathon is the paramount achievement for so many runners, (myself included), so it's with great pride and respect that I strive for another monumental goal as I train: to make miracles happen at Brigham & Women's Hospital.
I've been an employee at BWH for almost 7 years now. Within that time, I'm proud to say I've been a witness to so many life-giving breakthroughs. I've seen the incredible ways peoples' lives have been improved throughout all the disciplines of the hospital from Thoracic surgery to Neurology; from the NICU to Plastic Surgery. The Brigham is responsible for improving millions of lives.
I have committed to raise funds for the furthering of research at the Brigham this year. I know that only amazing things can come from it. I'm running in memory of my Memere who we recently lost after a long battle with Parkinson's and my Grandma who had Alzheimer's. It was painful to see people I loved so much struggle and decline over time. I always wished there was something we could do, something more. Now, I feel like I can help through fundraising. The cutting edge research and breakthroughs in both disciplines of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's gives me hope for so many families out there. Between The Parkinson's Transcription Project and the vast trials at the Center for Alzheimer's Research and Treatment (CART) I know the future will be brighter.
I'm not only committing to helping the Brigham because of my own family members, but for all the people in my life that could benefit in some small way, from those fighting Cancer to those with Multiple Sclerosis, to those with crippling arthritis to those who've overcome heart attacks. This is for all of you; because I know there is hope and I know that at Brigham and Women's miracles can really happen! Help me achieve my goal and make a better future for research and patient care!
A proud partner with the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.), Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) is excited to present two exceptional Boston Marathon teams this year: our core BWH Marathon Team, which supports life-giving breakthroughs across all disciplines and disease areas at the hospital; and the Stepping Strong Marathon Team, initiated by a Boston Marathon bombing survivor, which fuels innovative research and clinical programs in trauma healing and limb reconstruction at BWH. Since 1998, our BWH Marathon Team has raised more than $6.6 million to support world-class patient-centered care, groundbreaking research, community programs, and education for the next generation of healthcare leaders. Thank you for supporting this transformational work.
