BENEFITING: Brigham and Women's Hospital
ORGANIZER: Brigham and Women's Hospital
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
Dear friends and family,
I am honored to be running for the Stepping Strong Boston Marathon team this year! This will be the first marathon I have ever run, and I could not be more excited. I am thrilled to be a member of such an amazing team. Not only am I running with great people, but I am also running for an important cause.
On April 15, 2013, my friend Gillian Reny was critically injured in the Boston Marathon bombings. She was rushed to Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), where doctors and nurses worked heroically to save her life—and both of her legs.
Thankfully, Gillian is on the road to recovery today. In honor of the extraordinary BWH team that saved her life, I am running the 2015 Boston Marathon on April 20 to raise money for the Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Fund at BWH. Established by the Reny family in February 2014, the fund has raised over $3.6 million to date to support innovation in trauma healing and limb reconstruction—helping future patients like Gillian to regain their strength, mobility, and spirit in order to step strong once again.
I have been training hard for the race but cannot succeed alone. I need your help to reach my fundraising goal of $5,000. I am counting on the support of my friends and family to help fuel me through the 26.2 miles in April and to achieve my goal of giving back to BWH through the Stepping Strong Fund. You can learn more about the fund at BWHsteppingstrong.org.
I hope I can count on you to support my marathon run by contributing to this very special cause! Together, we can create more miraculous outcomes for those with traumatic, athletic, military, or disease-related limb injuries.
See you at the finish line!

One hospital, two extraordinary marathon teams. This year, Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) is excited to assemble two outstanding Boston Marathon teams: the Life.Giving.Breakthroughs. Marathon Team, dedicated to raising funds across all disciplines and disease areas at BWH, and the Stepping Strong Marathon Team, initiated by a Boston Marathon bombing survivor and dedicated to fueling innovative research and clinical programs to advance trauma healing. A proud partner with the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.), our two teams are united in a powerful mission: to transform the future of medicine for patients and families here in Boston and around the world. Since 1998, BWH has raised more than $6.6 million through its marathon program, and in less than a year, the Stepping Strong Fund has raised more than $3.6 million. Make a difference in the lives of patients and families for generations to come by supporting the Life.Giving.Breakthroughs and Stepping Strong teams.
