ORGANIZER: Brigham and Women's Hospital
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
April 15, 2013, is a date we would like to erase from our memory, a date that shocked the entire country. On that day, the life of my friend Gillian took an unexpected turn, she and her family were standing at the site where the first bomb exploded, the whole family was injured but Gillian was the most affected. No words can describe the pain that flooded my heart when I heard what happened to her. She almost lost her leg, but thanks to the wonderful team that took care of her at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the loving care of her family, she managed to attend his graduation from high school and attend college just in time. The recovery process was hard, and still is, but Gillian always has a smile on her face and a positive attitude, and that's something I always admired in her. Time passed, and I can see all the good things that emerged in the wake of this tragedy; the entire country became one, showing their support and love with all those who were affected. Gillian's family did not stay still either, and they found a way to give back all the support and love they got from people in those difficult moments. They launched a fund in honor of Gillian "The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Fund" at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
With the establishment of the fund, the Renys hope to help future patients with traumatic, athletic, military, and disease-related limb injuries regain their strength and step strong once again.
Now, I am honored of being able to be part of the “Stepping Strong Marathon Team 2015” This is my way to show my support to such a wonderful family.
I will run the Marathon for my family and friends who support me unconditionally at all times.
I will run the Marathon for my Dear daughter, whom I love with all my heart.
I will run the Marathon for this beautiful city that welcomed me from the first day I came to this Country.
I will run the Marathon for all those who can’t.
But above all, I will Cross the Finish Line for Gillian, who inspire me to keep going, no matter how hard the road might look.
Just as her, step by step to a completely recovery. I will be mile by mile to the Finish Line, with God's Grace.

One hospital, two extraordinary marathon teams. This year, Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) is excited to assemble two outstanding Boston Marathon teams: the Life.Giving.Breakthroughs. Marathon Team, dedicated to raising funds across all disciplines and disease areas at BWH, and the Stepping Strong Marathon Team, initiated by a Boston Marathon bombing survivor and dedicated to fueling innovative research and clinical programs to advance trauma healing. A proud partner with the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.), our two teams are united in a powerful mission: to transform the future of medicine for patients and families here in Boston and around the world. Since 1998, BWH has raised more than $6.6 million through its marathon program, and in less than a year, the Stepping Strong Fund has raised more than $3.6 million. Make a difference in the lives of patients and families for generations to come by supporting the Life.Giving.Breakthroughs and Stepping Strong teams.
