I distinctly remember saying to my soccer teammates in highschool after completing one of several 100 yard sprints during pre-season that I would never understand and most definitely never participate in "running for fun".
Fast forward to today where it has somehow seamlessly integrated into my life. From running with my brother and sisters (yes, now even the ballerina goes on jogs with us) during family vacations - rain or shine - to running my favorite annual 10 miler - Cherry Blossom in DC with one of my life partners/best friends. Now, that being said, I never thought I would remotely consider a marathon, much less the Boston Marathon. And well, here I am today.
I decided on MLK Day (officially) that I would run - with a bit of coaxing from my parents and a serious boost from a Joint Ventures PT trainer (and support from the Stepping Strong team trainer). The advice I got was: you could do this tomorrow... if you had to. And that advice is spot-on. I am so lucky to be able to run. Running is a gift, and then...it is also a choice.
I am so excited to be running the Boston Marathon on behalf of one of my favorite cousins Gillian Sara Reny (yes, I'll emphasize the "Sara" :). Since day 1 (well at least fairly early on in her life at least), I idolized getting to babysit her and hangout with her. She was so much fun (and a bit of a diva) and luckily that has now evolved into a friendship as well. I'm so lucky to have her in my life and I couldn't be more excited than to run on her behalf and the Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Fund.
