In 2003, shortly after my grandma died from ovarian cancer, I had emergency surgery at the age of 9 to remove a previously undetected tumor on my ovary. Although I was so young and didn't realize the severity of this situation at the time, this experience has been a defining moment in my life. Since then, ovarian cancer research and prevention efforts are near and dear to me.
I am elated to run my first marathon this November as a member of Team Bright Pink in memory of my grandma Margo Canavati to raise funds for ovarian and breast cancer prevention and early detection.
