Hello everyone - thanks for visiting my fundraising page!
I am running the NYC Marathon on November 5, 2017 for Team Bright Pink, a charity that I feel very passionate about. Bright Pink is the only national non-profit organization focused on prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women.Their aim is to reach the 52 million young women in the United States between the ages of 18 and 45 with their innovative, life-saving breast and ovarian health programs, thereby empowering this and future generations of women to live healthier, happier, and longer lives.
I am running in honor of my strong and courageous Aunt Carol, who passed away in December of 2016 after a 12 year battle with ovarian cancer. I watched her fight so hard each time the cancer came back until she no longer had the strength to go on. Many people have been or have known someone who has been affected by breast or ovarian cancer. It is a fact that 1 in 8 women will be diagosed with breast cancer and 1 in 75 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer (2/3 if these women will die as a result). These are very aggressive cancer's, however lives can be saved through prevention and early detection. The funds that I raise will go directly to support Bright Pink educational programs. They provide life-saving information to women and their healthcare providers about how to be proactive about their breast and ovarian health.
I am a runner and it has always been a goal of mine to one day run a marathon, however each time I have thought seriously about it I have been too scared. After my Aunt Carol lost her battle to ovarian cancer, I realized I can no longer let my nerves keep me from accomplishing my goals in life - and specifically, my goal to run a marathon. If she can have the strength to fight cancer for 12 years, I can have the strength to run 26.2 miles.
I hope you can consider making a donation to Bright Pink via my fundraising page. Donations of any size can make a difference! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for visiting my page and considering a donation :)
