BENEFITING: INSTITUTE FOR APPLIED TINKERING
Quinn Muller, a 12-year old Brightworks student, is independently doing a fundraiser to acquire a drone for the school to aid in student projects and support general understanding of this relevant technology. He is asking for your help in purchasing the DJI Phantom Vision+ for the benefit of all students (as well as his own project, involving aerial footage of Africa). Quinn's parents have committed an initial $250. The remainder of the estimated cost is the goal listed below.
(We also just had Amit Gupta of Photojojo offer $100 towards the purchase, so we're further reducing the target goal!)
SF Brightworks is a K-12 project-based school in San Francisco that emphasizes real tools, real materials, and real problems to encourage curiosity about the world, tenacity to think big, and persistence to do amazing things.
In the upcoming 2014-2015 school year the arc themes include Photograph and Movie. Quinn, whose past projects include constructing a flying arm trebuchet, assembling a 3D printer and designing an interactive Theory of Relativity exhibit, is leading the charge to bring a high performance drone to the school. The target is the Phantom 2 Vision+, the perfect tool for students of all ages to learn how to capture their own aerial footage. With an autonomous mode, the industry leading quadcopter provides many entry points for learning about physics, robotics, photography and other subjects.
