THE STORY:

Bring Emely Home

It all started when Emely commented on a picture I uploaded on Facebook of the view from my lanai. She commented that could she come here to my place. Little did I know then of her situation.

We started with innocent chatting as normal. At first I thought she was living in IloIlo Philippines. After several weeks of chatting she finally said that she has been working in Kuwait as a house maid for 2 years. I asked her why that was. She said that her family has little money and she was working to pay for her two sons’ education. As jobs are scarce in much of the Philippines that was the only way she could have employment to do so.

After we got a little more comfortable with each other I found out that Emely has never been home in the 2 years. I said it must be very difficult to give up so much and give your life to provide your sons education. She says she cries often but there is nothing else she can do.

She has not even had one day off in that time working 7 days a week laboring the cleaning, cooking, and nanny to her employers two young daughters. Emely makes $100 per week! It costs $500 each month for each of her sons education needs. That means she has borrowed the rest from her brothers and sisters that also struggle to make ends meet.

Her 2 year contract is up in December and her two sons will graduate in late March or early April 2016. The dilemma here is if she signs another one year contract she will miss her only two sons’ big moment in family life and be stuck in Kuwait for another year.

The money raised here will help pay for the final six months of Kim’s and Dino’s education, and help to pay back the family members that have helped over the past two years. Emely would like to open a small grocery store in her province of Guimaras town of Buena Vista and the funds will help to do so. Any remaining funds will be used to help others in the same domestic worker situation.

Thank You for your generosity.
