EVENT DATE: Sep 22, 2014
The Carteret Islanders fight against losing the place they know as home: Rising sea levels are eating away the remote islands, home of Ursula Rakova’s clan. Her organization Tulele Peisa is relocating families of climate refugees to a safe island, pursuing a sustainable lifestyle based on organic agriculture. Support this organization and other Equator Prize winning communities on the frontlines of climate change.
The Equator Prize is awarded every two years to outstanding indigenous and local community initiatives. These grassroots entrepreneurs from all over the developing world support sustainable livelihoods while combatting the world’s toughest environmental challenges: deforestation, desertification, water scarcity, and the illegal wildlife trade, among others.
This September, the 26 Equator Prize winners will travel to New York City for an award ceremony held in conjunction with the United Nations Climate Summit. Your donation will help them to share their success models with the world, and continue and step up their fight on the frontlines of climate change. These communities have discovered the solutions to the most pressing problems on earth.
