BENEFITING: MINNEAPOLIS SWIMS
Minneapolis Swims is working hard to bring together funding partners to open the first public, indoor swimming pool in The City of Lakes, Minneapolis, MN. For the first time ever, we look forward to having a 10-lane facility, in the heart of a densely populated, cenrally located, lower-income neighborhood. A 4-lane, 25-yard, zero-entry warm water training pool will teache thousands of children and adults the life-saving skill of swimming. This accessible pool will also be able to serve an Elder or disabled population as a therapy pool, and at other times, can be closed off for gender specific swimming. The 6-lane, 25-yard, competition pool, with spectator seating and 1 meter diving will allow new swimmers to develop their skills further, and offer club competition for kids looking to challenge themselves. This pool will also provide a home for three Minneapolis City High Schools that swim together as a team, who currently don't have a pool to call home. As we have worked on this project for 4 years now, it is only because of the collective effort that we have finally gotten to the point that we are breaking ground in the Spring of 2016! So many individuals, businesses, neighborhoods, elected officials, and then money from the State of Minnesota, Hennepin County, Minneapolis Public Schools, Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board, Shakopee Mdwakotan Sioux Community, and generous foundations corporations and individual donors all came togetherto get us to this point! But we are not quite done! We've raised the funds to expand the building, and get the pools in place, but we still have a way to go to finish and furnish them so that we can open by the Summer of 2017. We still need money for the diving board, for the lane lines, for the starting blocks, touch pads, railings. Help us finish the pool!
