October 14, 2016

As of today, Brady is  physically unable to perform the work responsibilities that are required. This is the last day he will receive any income. See More

THE STORY:

DIAGNOSED In early August of 2016, Brady Hukins was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. He has since then been through surgery and recovery. But before we get into the rest of this diagnosis, I would like for you to get to know him as we do.

MEET BRADY If you know someone in your life that grew up in the era where you worked at the factory from 8 to 5, had a lunch when the whistle blew and never missed a day's work, not even for a doctor's visit - that's Brady Hukins. He has been a devoted crane operator for the last 20 years.

Brady isn’t just what we would think of as a ‘blue-collar worker’, he is a wonderfully committed husband to his longtime high school sweetheart Bobbi Hukins. They, together, are one of the most authentic couples we have ever had the opportunity to meet. They both have so many stories full of life, laughter and lessons which they share freely.

Brady is also a father to their only son Brady Jr. whom they call “Bubba”. Brady would be the first to tell you that parenting has been a long life lesson that they are still learning to this day. Both Bobbi and Brady’s love for their only son has been seen on countless occasions.

Brady is called “pops” by his only granddaughter Dawsyn. He is the kind of grandfather full of jokes and silly comments which all little girls hang onto.

But above all, Brady would describe himself as a committed follower of Christ. He has been changed forever and born again through such a great testimony of faith. He shares openly with anyone who will listen to how God has changed him. This is the Brady we know the most. He is full of love for the Father and his love pours out through humor, life lessons and such simplistic understanding of scriptures.

JOURNEY TO OKLAHOMA We have had the privilege to meet both Bobbi and Brady through our church, life.church. They moved all the way from Amarillo to be regular attenders to life.church as well as for Brady’s current job location. They have been a part of our small group for the past two years. Faithfully, they have prayed for others, provided meals and have brought insurmountable wisdom to our group. As time passed they became a part of our family here in Oklahoma.

THE CURRENT PROBLEM The latest doctor's appointment has revealed that Brady does not have much time left on this earth. He has metastatic disease spread throughout his body which brings him an enormous amount of pain. Currently, he is waiting for disability but the clock is ticking. Disability is more than 2 months waiting time which they do NOT have. He is struggling to work every day to make ends  meet until disability is hopefully approved. The word struggling does not do justice to the situation. Brady is suffering through complete weakness and pain as he continues on in a manual labor job in order to provide for their family.

HOW YOU CAN HELP Right now, he is working in Kansas away from his family. Our goal is to raise $1000 or more to get him to Amarillo and closer to family as soon as possible. The money will provide immediate needs such as food, bills, supplies anything that Brady’s income would have covered for the next two months. We truly believe the statement by our church “ "We will lead the way with irrational generosity. We truly believe it is more blessed to give than to receive". Would you join me in Bringing Brady home? Let's make his last days here on earth surrounded by his loved ones!
