Bringing the Dogs Home
Organized by: Richard Selvious Langridge
Putri resting in our house before we came back. Sumi around somewhere
September 16, 2016
My goal is simple. To fly back to the U.K. my two dogs from Malaysia. I used to work there, you see, and during the seven years I did, I rescued many dogs (and cats) off the streets. Two of the dogs we rescued, my wife and I decided to keep: we called them PUTRI and SUMI. I can tell you more about how we rescued them at the end of this account, but for now what I want to say is: PLEASE HELP ME BRING THEM HOME. We just haven't got the $3,900 needed for the flight. If we don't bring them home, we may never see them again. You see, in 2013 we had to leave Malaysia and return to the U.K. We didn't want to, but we had to. Both my son (12) and me (57) caught dengue: this is a disease like Zika that is carried by mosquitoes. Ironically we got bitten rescuing a stray bitch and her puppies from the street. We were hospitalised and had a fever. Thankfully we recovered. The only thing is, if you get dengue a second time it can be much worse, even fatal. So we felt we had to leave Malaysia and come back to the U.K. We left Putri and Sumi with a friend who also rescues dogs - and promised it would only be a few months before we found a home in the U.K. and brought them over. But we couldn't get a job and it took me two years and all our savings to find and set up a home, re-train and become a teacher - which is what, in 2016, I now am. I earn £1700 a month take home pay. But we have nothing, no spare money. We try to save but as soon as we have a little, some bill comes in and we have to pay it. So now my friend, who has been very patient, is still looking after Putri and Sumi (but she has a house full of dogs as it is) and my son misses them so much (we all do). If there was any way you could give a little towards to the cost of inoculating them, paying a vet service to professionally crate them up and fly them home with Malaysian Airlines, we would be so grateful. $3900 is part of the cost; we have saved the remaining $900 it will cost. I would, of course, provide evidence of the tickets and cargo dates and photos of the journey. Please help. I can supply photos fo the two dogs. They deserve better - see their history below: PUTRI was found starving in a car park. She had been bought by someone as a puppy but thrown out when she started ovulating. She was starving and eating cardboard. We rescued her, gave her proper treatment and she turned into one of the most loving and intelligent animals I have ever met. SUMI is a smaller dog who I discovered among a small colony of strays and rescued her as she had a broken leg, having been hit by a car. The day after we rescued her, the stray colony she came from were all shot by the police - a common practice in Malaysia. She is a little nervous but very affectionate.
