THE STORY:

Children and farmers on Isle a Vache, Haiti need your support!
We are seeking funds to build a 5-kilowatt off-grid solar electric system at an educational farm on the island of Ile-a-Vache, on the south coast of Haiti, which will provide them with clean electricity. Electricity is necessary for furthering the education of the people living on Ile-a-Vache. It is needed to stimulate entrepreneurism on the island and support local economic growth of a sustainable food system.     We are also seeking funds to build 3 composting toilets at the Ecole du Village School, along with a cistern to collect water for hand washing and an additional 10 cistern systems at other schools on the island. We need your financial support to improve basic sanitation at schools and make clean electricity available to these children as well.
We need your help to raise $27,000 to buy the equipment to build the solar system with batteries, three composting, urine-diverting toilets and 10 cisterns!

Any amount you can contribute will help make this project a reality for the residents of Ile-a-Vache. 100% of the funds go to purchase equipment and materials to build the solar system, the composting toilets and cistern systems. The labor is being provided by the residents of Isle a Vache and volunteers.

The EDEM Foundation, residents of Isle a Vache, Mass Maritime Academy, Self-Reliance, the Kellogg Foundation are working together to make important projects happen on Isle a Vache.   EDEM has worked with Mass Maritime since 2010 helping local communities established their needs and develop appropriate technology to meet those needs.
