BENEFITING: COALICION DE ORGANIZACIONESLATINO-AMERICANAS
EVENT DATE: Aug 19, 2013
As the court date approaches for the workers to claim their wages
(Aug 19), they are organizing to get the message out and to support workers
who will testify in court. One of the workers, Osvaldo Medina, had to
return back to his home country, Mexico, as a result of the raid and
mistreatment. However, he is willing to come back on a special visa to
testify to the working conditions and wage theft of the workers
experienced while working in Shogun Buffet.
We are writing to see if you would be willing to help us raise $800 needed
to bring Osvaldo here in 1 weeks *and* to join our rally for solidarity
on the day the trial is scheduled. We have attended Moral Monday in Asheville two weeks ago and have been able to raise money by doing small scale fundraising, we have raised $400 out the $800 needed to go toward Osvaldo Medina's travel costs. Please help us meet our goal, thank you.
The rally will be held Monday August 19, 2013 8am on the steps of the
Buncombe County Courthouse (Asheville). You can also help by calling Shogun Buffet at (828) 665-8886, to ask them to pay their former workers what they owe in minimum wage and overtime.
Thank you for being a light and support to all of us on the ground. We
appreciate any kind of help you can offer as the day draws near to speak
out for justice!
