I'd like to thank you for taking the time to visit this page for it means so much to me. First, I'd like to share some brief background about myself. My name is Brianna Nino and I am a sophomore at UC Davis. I am a Biology major and I hope to one day become a pediatric oncologist. I care deeply about children because they are the future of our world and deserve the chance to grow up happy and healthy. I am willing to dedicate my life to ensuring that kids are given every opportunity to grow up mentally, physically, and spirtually healthy. This passion for children led me to finding an amazing opportunity for this coming summer. I discovered an organization called Empower A Child through a close friend. This is a christian based organization that sends volunteers to Uganda to enhance the lives of children and families that live in extreme poverty. With this program I will be able to further grow my medical aspirations by completing a medical internship two days a week in the local clinics and hospital. I will assist nurses and physicians in caring for basic injuries and wounds as well as learn from doctors that have come from around the world. On the days I am not interning, I will be volunteering. Some examples of the volunteer work I'll be doing are teaching children in local schools, visiting a babies' home to care for orphans whose parents have died from AIDS or have AIDS themselves, and cleaning up after the classrooms. On Sundays, I will attend church with all of the locals and help teach children about Jesus through sharing experiences and performing skits. This opportunity is going to help advance me in my career path and grow my faith. I know I will be forever changed by witnessing families that have so little food invest their energy into serving Jesus. I know with this internship I will change lives as well as my own. However, I cannot fund this trip on my own. Being a full time college student with only a part time job, I am unable to cover the costs of this international internship/mission trip. The cost of this trip will go to a plane ticket and the organization's fees which provide me with a place to stay, three meals a day, and transportation once I am there. This journey would mean the world to me if I can make it happen!
With great love, Thank you.
