On April 27, 2014, the 9/11 Memorial will host their second annual 5K Run/Walk and Family Day to raise awareness about the National September 11 Memorial & Museum and to encourage volunteerism in memory of 9/11.
This non-competitive fun run will take place entirely in lower Manhattan, taking participants on a historic 3.1-mile route that will pass important places that are part of the story of 9/11, and recall how we came together to support one another.
I am running in honor of my "Silly Uncle Billy", Captain William F. Burke Jr.. Billy was a captain firefighter at Engine 21 in Manhattan, NY, as well as a Jones Beach/Robert Moses lifeguard for over 25 summers. On top of all things great, he dedicated everyday of his life to protecting others, so it is only right for me to recognize his infectious and hard loving personality by hitting the pavement on April 27th. Please support me in acknowledging one of my heroes, as well as the heroes we lost and have gained.
All proceeds raised through your participation in the 9/11 Memorial 5K Run/Walk and Family Day will support the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.
