BROADWAY'S BABIES: SINGING FOR THE CHILDREN OF INDIA
Organized by: Katy Pfaffl
EVENT DATE Apr 18, 2016
With the world in need, where we often feel powerless about how we can lend a helping hand, Kate Pfaffl
(War Horse), and Ben Houghton (American Ballet Theater) have created an avenue for New Yorkers and Broadway performers to raise money for those in great need, by simply doing what they do best: singing their hearts out on stage in the first of a new series of benefit concerts titled “Broadway’s Babies: Singing for the Children of India”. The event will take place in NYC on Monday April 18th, 2016. This donation page is for those of you who are unable to make this performance, but who would still like to help contribute to raising money for these beautiful children.
Pfaffl and Houghton joined forces in Tamil Nadu, India, as teaching artists through ASTEP (Artists Striving to End Poverty). They met teaching musical theater at Shanti Bhavan, a boarding school comprised of over 200 children ranging in ages from 4-18 who come from families struggling with some of the worst poverty and discrimination in India. Shanti Bhavan has given the power of education to children who otherwise would have been destined to never rise above their caste, reversing the perpetual cycle of poverty. All funds raised from the evening will go toward operating costs, arts funding, and the development of a scholarship program to help bring volunteer teaching artists to the school, upon which Shanti Bhavan heavily depends.
The evening will feature some of TV and Broadway’s finest, donating their time and talent to help raise awareness and money for the children of the Shanti Bhavan Children's Project. Broadway’s Babies first concert will feature: Reshma Shetty (Royal Pains, Bombay Dreams), Gabrielle Ruiz (My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, If/Then, In The Heights), Laura Michelle Kelly (Finding Neverland, Mary Poppins), Matt Bogart (Jersey Boys, Aida, Civil War, Smokey Joes, Miss Saigon), Haven Burton (Kinky Boots, Violet, Shrek, Legally Blonde, Rent), Omar Lopez-Ceparo (On Your Feet, American Idiot, Capeman), Yasmin Alers (On Your Feet, Rent, Capetown, The Rocky Horror Show), Aneesh Sheth (Southern Comfort, Bombay Dreams), Mary Page Nance (Finding Neverland), Colby Lewis (Gotta Dance), and up and coming faces on the scene, Jessica Crouch (Broadway’s Next Sensation winner 2015), and Marla Louissaint (Jimmy Awards Best Actress Winner 2015). The concert will be videotaped, so please note that anyone who donates will receive a link to view this amazing and rare performance.
If you’re looking for the way that you can help make a difference in the world, this is your chance. Help these beautiful children have a future, and make a donation now.
