BronxWorks is organizing the third annual Dip Against Homelessness in which the Bronx Polar Bears will brave the frigid waters of Long Island Sound to raise to raise awareness about homelessness.
Homeless men and women are one of the most vulnerable elements of the low-income population. Many have experienced trauma or abuse. Three in five street homeless persons in the Bronx have a mental health condition. Many suffer from alcohol or drug dependence. All struggle to find a warm and safe place where they can lie down for a night’s sleep. Home for street homeless persons is a grassy area near a highway ramp, an abandoned tenement building, or a park bench. Deep sleep, which is essential to good health, is impossible. Safety is often a concern.
Each year the BronxWorks Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) makes thousands of contacts with street homeless men and women. Engagement is the first step in bringing about change. A trip to our Living Room/Safe Haven or a safe bed at a church that collaborates with BronxWorks is the middle step before we help street homeless persons obtain permanent housing. We need your support to continue this assistance.
Please join us. Together, we bring warmth and peace to some of the most vulnerable people in our community. For more info, contact Tiana Rogers at 646-393-4002 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The money raised through this event will support homeless individuals. It will enable BronxWorks to provide them with socks, scarves, gloves, shirts, undergarments, and other items. While many of us take these items for granted, for a previously street homeless person they are an important step towards the return to mainstream life.
P.S. If your employer matches contributions, please submit your donation info so that we can benefit from a matching gift and count your employer's donation towards our goals as well! BronxWorks' tax ID number is 13-3254484.
