I am thrilled to be running for the BronxWorks NYC marathon team. BronxWorks supports innovative solutions to homelessness through smaller Safe Haven shelters designed to bring homeless people back into permanent housing - even more importantly they prevent homelessness through jobs outreach, financial and legal assistance. The dual approach has supported a sharp decline in the homeless population as mentioned in the 2011 NY Times article: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/18/nyregion/nyc-makes-progress-helping-bronxs-chronic-homeless-adults.html?pagewanted=1&_r=3&.
Funds raised through the marathon will support youth programs including academic tutoring and college prep, assistance in applying to scholarships, but also provide recreational services for children of families living in the shelters such as swimming lessons, summer camps, trips to museums and parks, because a child with a healthy mind is a child with an optimistic vision of the future and bright opportunity for success.
Please join me in supporting BronxWorks' valuable work in support of the South Bronx community.
