BENEFITING: Free To Run Inc.
I ran my first race when I was 10 years old in Tehran, Iran (where I was living at the time) and fell in love. Since then, being an athlete has always been a part of who I am, even when I took an extended break when my kids were young. Six years ago, I learned to swim and did my first triathlon at 47. Crossing the finish line means much more to me than just completing a race - it is enriching and empowering and hugely satisfying on many different levels - and I am very grateful for all of the amazing experiences I have had. But many women in this world, especially those living in areas of conflict, don't have the same opportunities. That is why I am raising funds for Free to Run. Free to Run is a wonderful organization that develops opportunities for women in areas of conflict to become involved in sports, and through sports, to enhance their emotional and physical well-being. You can learn more about them at www.freetorun.com On May 20 I am running one of my favorite races, the Brooklyn half marathon, and I am asking for your support in this by making a donation to Free to Run. Anything you can contribute will make a very big difference in the lives of women who have faced incredible hardships. Thank you so much for your generosity. Happy running, Demetra
