BENEFITING: Bonobo Conservation Initiative
EVENT DATE: Aug 16, 2016
The first annual Brooklyn Bonobos fundraiser has the goal of raising enough money to support and fund the renovation, upkeep, and operational costs of the Bonobo Clinic. The Bonobo Clinic is actually a human medical clinic founded by Bonobo Conservation Initiative which serves the local population of Kokolopori, DR Congo and the surrounding areas within the habitat of Bonobos. Bonobos are our closest ape cousins and they are losing habitat, being hunted, and dying off at an alarming rate and they need their human neighbors healthy so they can help protect them.
This clinic has served as a patch of hope for the human villagers who live within the Bonobo habitat but it has unfortunately has suffered budget loss and has even recently lost its physician. If we can turn this clinic into the life saving center it can be, treating malaria, stabilizing injured patients, delivering babies, and more than we can restore the trust we have with the local people of the Equateur province. These people in turn become the true advocates and protectors of the endangered Bonobo species we are desperately trying to save from extinction.
