Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls is raising funds to launch an after school music and mentoring program for at-risk female-identified students at I.S. 136, a public middle school in the Sunset Park community of Brooklyn.
The I.S. 136 Music Club will serve a group of 15 students facing significant challenges to school success with the objectives of encouraging sustained school engagement, building community, and foster leadership skills.
At Music Club participants will learn to play musical instruments. They will form rock bands and work collaboratively to create original music with Willie Mae band coaches. They will participate in trust- and team-building games. Professional women musicians will guide periodic workshops and perform for them.
In short, with your help, I.S. 136 Music Club music students, many of whom would otherwise have no music programming in their lives, will ROCK OUT in a safe, fun, and empowering environment!
