Located in Brooklyn, NY, the Brooklyn Kings is a travel basketball organization that uses basketball as a tool to reach children in the middle grades to foster leadership, dedication, and hard work with a major emphasis on education. The organization is completely made up of volunteer coaches and administrators for the 5th-8th grade years to support and mentor these young men during a pivotal time in their lives.
Each year, the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) holds a National Championship, inviting the best teams throughout the country to compete for the title of the best team in the United States. Teams can only be eligible for the Nationals if they compete in a district qualifier and make it to the championship game. This year, the Brooklyn Kings 6th grade team competed in, and won, the prestigious New York Metropolitan District. In order to win the NYC district, the Kings played 3 games to advance in pool play and then won 3 games to meet the #1 nationally ranked teams, the NYC On Point Rens, in the finals where the Kings won decidedly. The students practiced diligently each week in addition to balancing their rigorous school work in order to achieve the ranking.
The AAU National Championship tournament will be held in Hampton, VA from July 16, 2014 to July 22, 2014. In order to make the journey from New York to Virginia, the team will have to rent a van, lodging and meals for a week for the 13 boys. We are asking for your assistance in helping to support the team by making donations to help the children participate in the National Championship. Any contribution you can make will be greatly appreciated.
