Running. Fyfishing. Beer.
If you know me, then you KNOW I'm hopping a flight to spend a weekend running and fishing the trails of Colorado -- Oh! And to sip on some quality microbrews.
But the Rocky Mountain Flyathlon is more than that. It's a fundraiser for coldwater conservation projects. This race series is partnering up with Colorado Trout Unlimited and the Western Native Trout Initiative to raise funds for coldwater fish habitat -- ensuring many years of healthy streams, fish, and...well... flyfishing.
*100 PERCENT OF YOUR DONATION BENEFITS COLDWATER STREAM HABITAT!*
Brooks Running, my employer, has joined the "race" to save fish habitat by providing gear to the top male and female fundraisers.
Now it's up to me to fish on and run happy in the BEAUTIFUL state of Colorado, August 12-14th.
THE EVENT: I'll be throwing a fly rod on my back and running 7 miles (with a 1500 ft. elevation gain) along the Middle Creek and East Middle Creek trails, located in the backwoods outside Sagauche, CO, in an effort to catch a fish. The bigger the fish, the more time will be knocked off my run.
I probably won't win the race.
And I probably won't catch the biggest trout.
But guaranteed I'm going to have a damn good time!
I will do my best to post updates and photos along the way:
...But I maaaaaay be too busy enjoying the trails, brews & friendly new faces.
Here's to a weekend of running, fishing, camping, drinking, and working to save our playground!
