BENEFITING: MEDIA DONE RESPONSIBLY
EVENT DATE: Jun 02, 2016
An Exemplar is a model of excellence who is worthy to be emulated. Presenting our youth with Exemplars of responsible, humanity-centered media, powerful individuals that look like them and are doing good in the world, is the mission of our 2016 Media Done Responsibly Beach Sunset Awards.
Media Done Responsibly (MDR) is a mentor and leadership development organization. It trains student innovators to be conscious consumers, creators and advocates of media that reflects their full humanity across the spectrum of race, socio-economic background, gender, religion and sexual orientation. Our trained college mentors help youth to interrupt the challenges of bullying, racial profiling and discrimination, rape culture, and dating violence, all issues that are often normalized in today’s media. MDR has trained 250+ mentors in the past 3 years and they’ve provided over 1900 volunteer hours to the community. We impacted 5000 youth in Los Angeles County resulting in a 100% reduction in cyber bullying, and 100% increase in media literacy awareness for participants.
The goal of the 2016 Media Done Responsibly Awards is to honor exemplars of humanity-centered media and to increase the media literacy resources we provide to local schools.
