BENEFITING: American Red Cross
EVENT DATE: Nov 04, 2012
Many of you may know that I have spent the last 5 months training for the New York City Marathon. Then Sandy happened and things changed a whole lot. All the personal sacrifies that I, my friends, family and loved ones have made to accommodate me in my training suddenly pale in comparison to the devastation suffered by so many people in the New York area.
For awhile I wasn't sure if the marathon was on or not, and now that I know for sure that its on, I feel that the LEAST I can do is try to raise enough money to offset the draw that the marathon will put on my citys resources and try to put that money towards helping people.
I believe that New York is a resilient city and I certainly see the benefit of showing the world that we can bounce back and stage a world-class event so soon after a major disaster. But the timing in this case is so unfortunate in that so many people are still in need of real help, any diversion of resources from that end is understandably frustrating.
But I also believe in focusing on the positives. If the marathon is going to take place, then let's do the best we can to make it as positive of an experience for New York as we possibly can and try to raise some money to help those whose lives have been destroyed by the storm.
