On June 26th I will embark on a climb of Mount Rainier with a team of other climbers handpicked by Jansport - one of our nation's iconic backpack brands. Jansport's founder, Skip Yowell, was instrumental in the early development of Big City Mountaineers and I am honored to be part of this team.
Skip passed away in October of 2015 and I want to honor his legacy by climbing Rainier with Jansport for BCM. Moreover, I recently celebrated my one-year anniversary as Executive Director for BCM and I am so impressed with everyone I work with who are so passionate about seeing this great organization succeed. I feel compelled to join the hundreds of other climbers, volunteers, and donors who work so hard to make sure Big City Mountaineers is able to provide transformational outdoor experiences for under-resourced urban youth.
This year we'll be engaging kids from Boston, Minneapolis, Denver, Seattle, Portland, Miami, and the Bay Area. We'll run 42 week-long expeditions, 15 overnight camps, and recruit over 350 volunteers to serve as adult mentors. By the end of the summer we'll have provided over 2,000 nights under the stars for young people who would not have had the opportunity without Big City Mountaineers in their lives.
Please support my climb. Every dollar you donate will go directly to Big City Mountaineers! You can learn more about Big City Mountaineers by visiting www.bigcitymountaineers.org or you can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
