Welcome to the Boston Scholar Athlete Program's 2012 Boston Marathon home page. Thank you for your support of our program and our runners.
History: In the summer of 2009, the Red & Blue Foundation announced the launch of the Boston Scholar Athlete Program (BSA), which is a multimillion-dollar program designed to support academic achievement through athletics in Boston Public Schools. A joint collaboration with the City of Boston, the program provides a platform that encourages participation from professional sports teams, colleges and universities, and corporations. BSA is committed to enhancing opportunities for Boston Public School scholar-athletes.
Academics:The BSA has opened academic learning centers, ZONES, in 19 Boston Public High Schools. The Zone will offer our scholar-athletes the opportunity to improve their academic achievement both in and out of season. Over the next three years, we will expand our academic support offerings through partnerships with local and national organizations, non-profits, and colleges and universities. The Zone will support our scholar-athletes through free tutoring, Summer Job employment opportunities, College Counseling, and a comprehensive SAT preparation course in partnership with The Princeton Review.
Athletics: Members of the Boston Scholar Athlete Program also benefit from our athletic support structure. Equipment and facility upgrades set the stage for enhanced performance and increased participation. End of the season All Star games offer scholar-athletes the opportunity to demonstrate their ability and be recognized by their peers for their athletic and academic performance. Also, the BSA has implemented The Boston Coaches Academy, a robust coaching education curriculum that develops coaches as mentors. We will continue to expand our offerings to more sports, and levels of teams, with the vision to support our Middle School scholar-athletes by 2014 - 2015.
