BENEFITING: ALEXS LEMONADE STAND FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Dec 01, 2010
It's quite simple...I live a very fortunate life where I don't truly have a need for anything. While I do have the ambition and a desire to live a higher quality of life, acquiring more material possessions is not what creates genuine happiness and content within my life. I have been blessed with good health, a wonderful wife, great friends, and a loving family. I was also lucky enough to have been born in what I believe is the greatest country in the world (United States). This “Land of Opportunity” has also given me the opportunity to obtain a good education (both institutional and “street smarts”), and apply a stubborn work ethic to earn enough income to meet my own needs and the needs of my family above and beyond the most basic human needs. I say “lucky” because when we are brought into this world at birth, we are not given a survey with the option to choose things like the country, socioeconomic status, and/or living conditions in which we prefer to be born. More importantly, we are not given the option to “opt-out” of being born with genetic disorders, disabilities, or environmental diseases that may impact our lives and those around us. So, in recognition of the “luck” I have been blessed with, I would like to suggest the following:
1. Rather than accepting more material possessions, cash or gift cards (that I don’t truly need), I’d prefer you join me in helping raise money for ALEX'S LEMONADE STAND FOUNDATION (ALSF), which seeks to create awareness of childhood cancer causes and research into new treatments and cures. In addition to a heart wrenching story about the founder (Alex Scott) and the legacy she leaves behind, I especially like this organization because I believe it encourages and empowers children to help other children in need, and teaches children the principles of philanthropy. Shall you have an interest in learning more, please go to http://www.alexslemonade.org.
2. Likewise, I would encourage you to pick a charitable foundation, project or fundraising program that you would like to support. I would be honored to make a donation to the organization on your behalf this year or in the future shall you decide to forgoe material posessions for things such as holidays, anniversarys, birthdays, etc..
Thanks in advance for your support and Happy New Year to you and your family.
*Ps...If you don't give back, no one will like you.
