Build Lightly Guatemala - on the blog!
March 07, 2017
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2016
This truly collaborative design/build workshop will bring together students and mentors of architecture, engineering & construction to build a new classroom for our client, LEAF International – for the music school in El Tejar, Guatemala. Build Lightly participants will facilitate a community design and building process that engages local students and teachers.
The new classroom will double the size of the existing learning space, allowing the program to enroll more than 80 new students. This will help strengthen the overall program and help honor and preserve local music traditions. It will also create opportunities for youth to pursue professional development opportunties, such as becoming certified as Music Instructors.
While our Crowdrise Goal is $3500, the local community in El Tejar is helping to generate additional resources for the construction of this classroom. The Music Teachers at the CEDIN school are assisting by asking local hardware stores and families of the students to contribute in-kind donations, such as one concrete block or sheet of metal roofing. Addiitonally, local families have agreed to provide meals for the Build Lightly team.
Here is what your donation will provide:
- $25: 1 bag of cement or 25 cement blocks
- $50: Window or door
- $100: Roof structure
- $250: Roofing materials and structure
- $500: 1 of 4 walls that will enclose the classroom
