My Husband and I are from California/Utah and have worked in Accra for the last 3 years, and I volunteer once a week reading with the children. The Ayi Mensah village currently has a partially finished school, slowly being built by a local man in the village through donations.
So far it's taken 6 years to build 6 classrooms. Every Tuesday I spend time in each classroom reading a story to the class and then letting the children have time to take books from the bin and read them or look at them. I then collect the books and go on to the next classroom etc. There are six classrooms and I visit them each once a week.
The school is overflowing and desperately needs more room and some basica supplies, like tables, chairs, bookcases and chalkboards. All of which are extremely hard to come by locally, and typically need to be custom build or imported.
Help us build a new classroom and furnish the other rooms! Thank you for your consideration.
