Build A Foundation For Kids In Fond-des-Nègres
Organized by: Anya K.
This summer, I traveled to Fond des Negres, a small city about 70 miles west of Port-au-Prince, with Helping Hands & Beyond to explore a beautiful country, run a soccer camp, and open a desperately-needed medical clinic. The area is warm and soulful, but the hardships are many.
The local elementary school is in trouble: It's partially subsidized, but it hasn't been receiving the funds it is due. This means the school director is paying out of pocket, and into deepening debt, to provide supplies, books, and meals for the students, not to mention repair the building for a safe learning environment.
He drew up a list of a few basic things he needs to get the school year started:
-Teaching materials: $549
-Clean water: $198
-Repairs: $330 +
-School supplies: $110
In total, the school staff needs about $2,000 to give an education to the children of Fond des Negres, a town that has welcomed me as a home.
By reading, you've become aware that people around the world live in vastly different environments, but we have the same basic needs and dreams. By sharing, you're extending our modern, global village. By donating, you are directly transforming children's lives in Fond des Negres.
*Since 2009, Helping Hands & Beyond has extended unconditional, compassionate medical and social care to communities in Haiti. Our volunteers work in clinical settings, treating and assisting vulnerable children and adults. We also offer education and holistic services to promote personal wellness and combat social stigma.*
