BENEFITING: EDGE OF SEVEN INC
EVENT DATE: Nov 08, 2010
This project is organized by a small group called Edge of Seven (http://edgeofseven.org/) and the $3,400 covers all costs for two weeks in Nepal, including round-trip airfare from the USA to Nepal and back, on-site lodging with a Nepali family, all food, and transportation to and from the project site.
I will spend the two weeks outside, working alongside local Nepali's and other volunteers to help build housing for girls using local materials (rocks, wood from local trees, etc.) and since there is no heavy construction equipment up in the mountains, all the labor will be done by hand (moving stones, digging in the dirt for the foundation, etc.).
I will document my experiences on my blog and post lots of photos to my Flickr account. Your support will not only help me with the building, but it will also allow me to share my first-time volunteer experience with everyone.
Here is the description of the project from Edge of Seven:
Solukhumbu Girls Empowerment Program - Everest Region
Seven out of every ten girls in the Everest Region of Nepal don't get to go to college because of a lack of housing for girls.
With your help, we can change that.
Edge of Seven will begin construction on a women's hostel in the Solukhumbu Region's district capital of Salleri this November, which will house 50 college-bound girls from rural areas where higher education is not available.
