Piedmont Housing Alliance, which coordinates services at the Friendship Court Apartments in downtown Charlottesville, is building a running program for the pre-teen residents of the neighborhood. Friendship Court is home to 150 families and more than 250 children. The median income of these families is $10,800. Charlottesville and Albemarle County's median income is $83,200.
In 2014 we started a Girls on the Run team with a generous local sponsor and a successful CrowdRise to purchase running gear for the fall 5K race, which occurred in November at Sweetbriar College. This year we want to fully fund the program, which will now be expanded to include a boys running program called Let Me Run. Both of these programs will be run in the spring and the fall.
The cost is $15,000 and we have received a kick off gift of $2,500. So our goal is $12,500. Please help us get the kids up and running!! (If you prefer, you can send a check to Piedmont Housing Alliance, 1215 E. Market, Suite B, Charlottesville, VA 22902; write "Running Program" on the memo line. Thanks!)
