Black Women for Wellness is a community non-profit that has been committed to the empowerment, education and well-being of Black women and girls in Los Angeles for the past 20 years.
We accomplished a lot in 2016! We registered over 1,000 new voters and created and distributed a proposition guide to educate folks on how California’s 17 propositions would affect the Black community. We also held our Sister’s @ Eight breakfast forum every month for the community to come out and discuss the issues we face and the possible strategies for moving forward. We launched a series of workshops in high schools to educate youth around sexual education and sexual harrassment. Oh, and we put on free healthy cooking classes, diabetes prevention classes and other educational events weekly.
While much work was done, we still have much work to do. In order for us to accomplish our goals for the coming year, we will definitely need your support! Your donations of money, time and energy are integral to our success since they allow us to remain independent and continue to speak truth to power.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 this year. Any donation that you can make, no matter how big or small, will help us reach our goal.
Also, if you aren't able to donate any money, you could also help us by donating your time. On #GivingTuesday (11/29/2016) we'll be holding a Old School Fundraising Telethon at our LA office. We will have refreshments flowing and music bumping as we invite volunteers and supporters into our space to help us call members of the community to educate them about our organization and ask them for a donation. If you are available to volunteer your time and energy to support the work that we do, just fill out the following form to let us know what time works for you: https://goo.gl/forms/4lNNsI6BeCoWjUxz2.
