Building Schools in Uganda
Organized by: Presley Goucher
My name is Presley Goucher and I am a sophomore in high school and I have a passion for children's education in third-world countries. It all started about 2 years ago when my family and I read through Bob Goff's "Love Does". In his story, Bob talks about his nonprofit that he started a few years back that gave education and a safe environment to children in over 6 major third-world countries. He writes about how fortunate he was as a child to have the things he did, the family he did, and the education he got. I didn't think much about the book until you started my freshman year of high school. I dreaded getting up early in the mornings, I had trouble with a lot of my classes, and I wasn't making very many friends. I would always come home with a bad attitude and just wasn't happy with what I was doing. I didn't realize it until a few months later, but I became very selfish towards what I was given in life. I had a wonderful family, a nice school with decent teachers, and a safe environment in which I am growing up in. I had been complaining about things that a lot of people in the world strive to have one day. From that day forward, I decided that I needed to give this selfishness to God and let Him make something out of it. In return, I believe God is calling me to build schools for the children in these countries, for the exact purpose to give them something that will change their lives for the better. My short-term goal is to build at least one school in Uganda before I graduate high school in 2018. My long-term goal is to ultimately build multiple schools in that area in which they are needed! I am taking an exploratory trip at the end of March to find some places in which could be possible locations for our very first school!
