BENEFITING: BORGEN PROJECT
EVENT DATE: Nov 20, 2016
The Borgen Project is an innovative, national campaign that works with US leaders to improve their response to the global poverty crisis. Right now, the US contributes only 1% of its gross national income to foreign aid; and only 0.5% actually goes to victims of poverty, but The Borgen Project wants to change that.
I've decided that I want to run my second marathon this fall. I care about The Borgen Project so much that I want to carry their cause with me along the many miles of training runs this summer in Northwest Indiana and Chicago, the even longer runs back in New York between homework and exams, and finally for 26.2 miles at the Brooklyn Marathon, November 20.
Running this marathon is my way of taking the energy I exert and putting it toward a cause larger than myself. Each and every mile I will remember those who never got the chance to run all the miles I will be putting in over the next couple months. Sometimes people feel too small in life to have a great effect on the larger globe, but I want to show the world that we can bring about big change, together.
