EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
Hi – my name is John and I’m running the 2015 Boston Marathon on behalf of the b.good Family Foundation. I’m excited to be raising money for such a great organization and am going to try to make it interesting for all of you who are looking to donate! I’ve found that people are most excited to donate if it means I have to do something embarrassing, so you’ll have the opportunity to help me run the race with a mustache, sport a mustache for a few weeks before the race, or run with a (temporary) tattoo of your choosing on my arm.
I’ve set up the following donation buckets (and be sure to check the other pictures to the left)
The Clydesdale Match:
The first response I always get when people find out I am running is a look of shock and disbelief (being a good 40 pounds over the Clydesdale weight limit and not having much of a “runners build” will do that). Do you think I’m crazy? Well, this is your chance to have your donation matched, BY ME, if I don’t finish the marathon or if I do finish but in more than 5 hours (and don’t feel bad betting against me – it will be motivation for me to get out on my training runs and to finish!)
The picture above was taken after a lost bet due to my Broncos not being able to even make it past the Colts in the playoffs, and due to popular demand, it's back. Want me to have to run with a mustache? If the total donations here get to $2,000, I’ll be running the marathon with a mustache. If this gets up to $5,000, I’ll sport the mustache starting 2 weeks before the marathon and keep it until I finish (or until the end of Marathon Monday…just in case I don’t finish…)
Full Body Tattoo-
Nice and easy here – for $400 I’ll wear a 3 inch X 3 inch temporary tattoo of your choosing on my arm when I run (this is the standard post-it note size). Taunt me with the Manning Face, an embarrassing picture you have of me or anything else you can think of- as long as it's family-friendly, I’ll wear it. Space is limited!
Sure to either go up or down drastically in value, for $100 you get a personally signed and numbered picture of me crossing the finish line. Also, anyone who donates a total of $500 or more to any of the levels above will get one of these sought after mementos (So $400 for a tattoo plus $100 Clydesdale match also gets you a picture).
When I originally committed to running the Boston marathon, my friend, Shaun, agreed to do it with me. Not long after, he came to his senses and unlike me, realized that his body isn't made for marathon running. Feeling a sense of obligation and guilt for bailing, he has agreed to another contribution. He is going to encourage his friends, family and enemies to donate to this campaign. If I reach $15k in donations, he will shave off a goatee that he has only shaved twice since high school and not once since 2001. At that time, his girlfriend (now his wife) told him to "never do it again" because he looked like a fat 10 year old. I wonder how many chins he is hiding under that goatee now. Help me find out.
****This page does not offer a way to donate to different areas like this, so please just put in the notes where you’d like your donation to be applied to!
