EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
My name is Shaun Polke. In college I put on 50 pounds and in an attempt to hide my fattening face, I grew a beautiful bushy goatee. Those 50 pounds never game off and neither did my glorious facial hair. My wife saw my clean shaven face once in 2001 and told me to never let the world see it again. Like most things in my life, she is probably right, no one really wants to see that again....or do you?
I am passionate about a charity called Bgood. When friends of mine needed help a few years ago, I was amazed out how Bgood reached out to do their part. Having seen their work in action and being so impressed by their mission and their execution of their charitable work, I reached out to get involved with them.
I was so excited to be a part of the BGood team, that when I was asked to run the Boston marathon with my close friend, John Kowaleski, in an attempt to raise money and awareness for their charity, I signed up immediately. However, it wasn't long after that I realized that I am more suited for a burger eating marathon than an actual running one so I bailed on my commitment. Feeling guilty and hungry, I tried to come up with another way to contribute. The best thing that I could come up with was to raise as much money as I can. In order to do that, I am going to auction off something that has been part of my existence for a very long time. I am going to shave off my goatee if between John and I, we can reach an aggressive goal of raising a combined $15k. John, whose wife once thought he weighed over 300lbs, is still committed to run the marathon in April. God Bless him.
Please donate whatever you can to this great cause. When we reach the goal, I'll post the pictures to Facebook for your amusement/horror. Please pass this on to other friends or enemies of mine. Every dollar helps.
