Burma Flood Relief and Rescue
Organized by: Todd Zimmerman
Towns and villages all over Burma are experiencing extreme flooding this rainy season. There is no emergency infrastructure to speak of and the government has failed to act. My wife came to me and asked me to send money to someone in her mother's native town in upper Burma where her relatives are in dire conditions. We regularly send money to her family, but this was different. We sent $200 and she said that would save 4 or 5 families. I asked her if we could do more, and we can. We've connected with local volunteer groups who are already doing what they can to rescue people from submerged houses and get them to higher ground, but they lack the funding to secure the proper equipment and supplies to conduct the rescues properly. It breaks down something like this: $30 for boat rental and fuel $10 to feed a family for a week (basic rations - noodles/rice) $10 for blankets and misc. supplies This is where we need your help. Give what you can. Rescue a family, help them get food and temporary shelter.
