THE STORY:

Nearly every Friday for the past ten years, Dr. George Bwelle, a visceral surgeon at the Central Hospital in Yaoundé, has packed a rented van with surgical equipment, life-saving pharmaceuticals and a high powered generator, and driven out into the remote regions of his country, to spend his free time providing medical services at no charge to needy communities. In return, he only asks that the community provide a place for his team of volunteers to sleep and a location to perform surgery and give consultations. Most patients in these areas have never seen a doctor.

This summer, six Drexel Medical students will board a plane to Cameroon, Africa with duffle bags full of surgical supplies and medications in order to a assist local surgeon, Dr. George Bwelle. This humanitarian leader has spent the past 10 years providing medical services at no charge to remote, tribal communities. Most of these patients have never seen a doctor and these visits may be the only chance they will have to receive life-saving medical attention.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 to purchase equipment, surgical supplies, and medications for our trip this summer. All money raised goes directly to helping the people of the villages in Cameroon. They would otherwise have no access to medical care.
